Your Life. Your Path. Your Story

Hi, my name is Nancy Cassity.

I am a Regional Human Resource Manager for a large Automotive Group out of Charlotte, NC. I spend a fair amount of time traveling between my stores in California, Texas and Kansas City.

My greatest joy in life is being a mother to two wonderful sons and their lovely wives (AKA, my beautiful daughters). The true joy however, comes from my seven grandchildren that are blessings from these special unions.

I also have a passion for travel, exploring new locations locally and internationally. It provides opportunities to visit locations that are very challenged in many areas, always making me even more grateful for all I have in my life.

I believe my first hike with Raquel was in May 2016. A friend of mine’s manager was training with Raquel for I believe a half marathon. It was an evening hike on Shell Ridge which turned out to be a fabulous time. Raquel not only made a lovely spread of tapas and "pinchos", she carried the entire meal in a backpack almost as big as herself. Best part of the hike was trying to find the way back to our cars in the dark. Of course we all laughed because you can only get so “lost” on Shell Ridge.

Nancy far left with her furry friend!

I love the sense of camaraderie and the light heartedness everyone carries on our hikes.

It is so great to be outdoors with fabulous women in areas I might not explore on my own. It is always a fun escape from reality and the pressures we all face these days.

I always look forward to seeing what wonderful food items Raquel has prepared, especially the soups.

The food is always fresh, healthy, delicious and prepared with great care.

It’s like a large family gathering in which everyone enjoys themselves.

"I especially appreciate sitting back having a glass of wine or cava while someone else prepares my meal."

Spending time with women from all walks of life, both culturally and professionally is my favorite part. There is so much to learn from one another and each hike and special event just tightens the bonds. I learn a lot by just listening to the various conversations that take place while we hike.

I also enjoy the diversity of our hikes and that the hikes allow everyone to finish in their own time without pressure. The fast hikers can move forward and the slower hikers or photographers can finish at their leisure. I have learned one thing though; it does not pay to be the first one back to the car when Raquel has control over the food and wine. Might as well stick close and enjoy the views and the conversation.

Nancy and Donna... the dynamic duo that always stick together!

Donna, the one that always says I am "almost there." Sure she is, and sure we all are :) Those that come to our hikes know what we are talking about here. Donna was why Raquel, our leader and founder, created a new w.o.m.e.n t-shirt with the theme "Almost There."

Having lived alone for several years and now working remotely the majority of the time, I find the need to be with other people to be extremely important. I look forward to spending time with Raquel and the rest of the W.O.M.E.N group, it never disappoints. How could you possibly have a bad day when spending time with Raquel? Always smiling, positive and so full of energy.

Nancy on the left: "I have never spent a day with this group where I haven’t gone home energized, reconnected, and looking forward to the next adventure."

Nancy fills in the blank:

I would never go on a hike without bringing my Corksicle champagne flutes for our halfway point Cava. Additionally, after going on too many hikes without the proper attire, I now carry scarves, gloves, and hats in my car in order to be prepared for our lovely bay area weather. Anyone remember Tennessee Valley that fine summer day when it felt like it was about 50 degrees plus a wind chill factor? Coldest summer hike ever. Brrrr…… Connecting with w.o.m.e.n outdoors means being outdoors enjoying life, being active, sometimes moving out of my comfort zone, the only in which I will grow. Spending time outdoors with other women has allowed me to take time to appreciate the beautiful area in which we live. To get together with friends away from the daily tasks that fill our lives, to relax, laugh, eat great food, just focus on ourselves as accomplished, successful women in our own right.

Nancy's tip to you:

I always bring hiking poles, they are a great asset on a steep ascent and are very effective for taking the pressure off of your knees on the descent. Also effective for balancing on boulders while crossing streams. Saved me from a dunking on more than one occasion.

From Raquel,

You were one of the first w.o.m.e.n that came to my hike+food events. I can't believe it has been six years! Thanks for the reminder :) Thank you for supporting the group, always being such an easygoing woman, easy to be with, and fun to talk to, and for planning the participation with Donna. You two have become the solid duo friends I miss when not around. Your loyalty to the group is highly appreciated. We keep moving, stronger so you can be in the front and never have to be back and miss food or drinks :) We hike, we connect, we are, indeed w.o.m.e.n
